Marshall to be Suspended

marshallAccording to Ed Werder of ESPN, wide receiver Brandon Marshall has been suspended by the Denver Broncos for contact detrimental to the team.

The lenght of the suspension has not yet been released. The maximum suspension allowed is four games.

Marshall, who put on a stunning display of selfishness at yesterday’s practice, has been vocal about his unhappiness in Denver. Although he has requested a trade, it is doubtful the Broncos will oblige. Jay Cutler has already forced his way out, and Denver wouldn’t want to set a precedent for players unhappy with their situation.

Josh McDaniels has done a superb job running the franchise since being named the head coach.

Burress Cops a Plea

nyg_plaxico_burress_01 NEW YORK (AP)—Facing the prospect of spending at least 3 1/2 years behind bars, one-time Super Bowl star Plaxico Burresson Thursday accepted a plea bargain with a two-year prison sentence for accidentally shooting himself in the thigh at a Manhattan nightclub.

The former New York Giants wide receiver pleaded guilty to one count of attempted criminal possession of a weapon, a lesser charge than he had faced. He will be sentenced Sept. 22, and lawyer Benjamin Brafman said he expects Burress to begin serving his sentence immediately after.

Burress got into a black SUV without speaking to reporters outside Manhattan state Supreme Court, but Brafman said, “After an agonizing period of discussion, Plaxico decided that he wanted to do this, to put this behind him as quickly as possible.”

The ex-football star was indicted earlier this month on two counts of criminal possession of a weapon and one count of reckless endangerment. He faced a minimum sentence of 3 1/2 years if convicted at trial.

Hours after his court appearance, the NFL announced commissioner Roger Goodell had suspended Burress and said he is ineligible to sign with any team until he completes his jail term. Goodell, who met with Burress and his representatives last week, said Burress will be reinstated upon completion of his sentence.

Burress’ guilty plea ends months of haggling between Brafman and the Manhattan district attorney’s office. The case went to a grand jury after negotiations broke down, apparently because District Attorney Robert Morgenthau was insisting that Burress serve at least two years in prison.

Eagles Bradley Blows ACL

stewart-790382During a routine play in front of 31,000 raucous Eagles fans, starting Philadelphia Eagles middle linebacker Stewart Bradley limped away to the sidelines. Little did the fans in attendance know that the defensive player who many thought would be on the verge of a breakout season would be limping away for the season with an ACL injury.

The Eagles inaugural Flight Night consisted of a number family oriented activities such as face paintings, obstacle courses, fireworks and even sky divers. However, the biggest news, despite the large amount of money donated to charity, was the loss of the 3rd year linebacker out of Nebraska.

Bradley was coming off his first year as a starter in the NFL and notched 108 tackles leading to the expectation of him stepping into the role as a leader on the defense in the wake of the team losing long time safety Brain Dawkins to Denver.

The injury to the linebacker caused a bit of a stir in the Eagles locker room once Coach Andy Reid found out a few beat writers had called Bradley’s cell phone. Reid lashed out at the local media and declined to give them the list of injured players which he usually begins each one of his press conferences with.

Once upon a time starter Omar Gaither and 2nd year man Joe Mays are expected to compete for the vacant job.

Vick Won’t Be A Patriot

michael-vick-tape-on-fingersAs each day passes it’s looking like Michael Vick’s chances of regaining NFL superstardom are getting slimmer and slimmer. Over the weekend the New England Patriots became the latest team to publicly deny Vick a spot on there roster.

Patriots owner Robert Kraft expressed his non-desire to sign the disenfranchised ex-Atlanta Falcon, stating that the Pats already had the leagues best quarterback in Tom Brady.

After last weeks remarks by Bill Belichick in which he praised Vick’s abilities it almost sounded as if Vick would be an insurance policy for the Pats if Brady were to reinjure his knee over the course of the upcoming season.

Broncos’ Marshall Injures Hamstring

4Things just seem to go from bad to worse for Broncos wide receiver Brandon Marshall. Yesterday in training camp the wide out injured his hamstring while running a deep route near the sideline.

This injury comes in the wake of an offseason filled with hip surgery recovery as well as adamant demands to be traded by the organization.

Marshall who was more or less showing a gesture of due faith showed up to training camp even though he is visibly upset over his current contract. Of course it seems as he would have the right to be at least a little upset about his current wage due to the fact that he has posted two straight 100 catch seasons.

After the training session Denver Broncos head coach Josh McDaniels said that he was uncertain of how serious Marshall’s injury was and gave no timeline for his recovery.
